Ed and his Dead Mother

Ed (Steve Buscemi) is a "momma's Boy" who has to coup with the recent death of his mother. Struggling to move on and run the family's hardware store in a small town, Ed is confronted by a salesman that has an offer that Ed just can't resist. What if there was a way to bring the dead back to life... is it worth the price, Ed is about to find out how much he really misses his mother! The movie is an 8 in my book, Steve Buscemi has played such Phenomenal roles since this movie was made (1993) that it shines kind of a bad light on Chuck Hughes, the writer and Jonathan Wacks, director of the film. But Its Steve Buscemi so its entertaining anyway. If you like this, Try the Evil dead trilogy on for size. No gore that i can recall though but what can you expect for a pg 13 rating, Lot's of female butt shots (lame), I don't get it. A movie is rated R for fake blood, but you can throw as much sex and sexual innuendoes into a flick and it gets a pg 13 at best...our society is F**ked!

Best of Show

Their are events in each of our lives that are pivital in determining our futures...even for Dog lovers and their dogs. Done in a "mockumentry" style, this movie fallows the events of the dogs and there owners before and after one of the most prestigious Dog shows in the world, and gives you an insight into the blood sweat and tears that go into being worthy of the a blue ribbon and a title that any dog anywhere can appreciate, "Best of Show". If you love sutle humor, this movie is right up your ally. Sometimes theres nothing funnier than the habits, intrests, and obssesions of people who might just be your neighbors. I give this movie an 8. It's not quite as funny as something like the Royal Tenenbaums, but its definately worth watching if your in the mood for comedy. If you liked this film, check out A Mighty Wind, another "mockumentry" By Writer and Director, Christopher Guest.

R-Point

9 soilders are given orders to go deep into the jungles of Veitnam, right in the middle of the war and find a missing group of soilders thought to be all dead, but after a mysterious Radio signal comes into to headqaurters, the commanding officers want some answers. Sounds a little like Saving Private Ryan right? Think again. There is something at R point, the last point at which the missing soldiers last made contact. And all the men in the "search and rescue party" are going to need all the guts they can muster to make it through this mission...maybe because something waiting for them on the other side of the Bamboo forest is going to spill what guts they've got left...You've got to love a good Asian flick because they never let you down when it comes to gore, or making you jump. If you liked this, check out Stanely Kubricks, Full Metal Jacket.

Waking Life

Hey, who doesn't like picking apart the fabric of reality? Really! Are you awake right now? How do you know? Or is all this a dream? This movie is a favorite of mine because we all live in world full of people who say there post modern. Telling us that it doesn't matter how you think about particular things but then tearing you apart when you tell them that you don't see it there way. But what happens when all the ideas most anyone has ever had are just all thrown out on the table for you to pick up and hold or just stare at and let you, the dreamer that you and all of us are decide for ourselves what this crazy thing called life really means to us. The movie is a definate 10, with wild and creative animation that makes you wonder if your watching a movie or just sleeping peacefully while your darkest dreams and deepest desires, dance across the screens we all have hidden deep inside our minds. If you liked this film. Try any Charlie Kauffman film on for size, man can that guy warp your mind! He's pure Genius!

The princess and the Warrior

Have you ever just excepted the world around you as a reality because It's all you've ever seen and have you ever wondered if all those little, seemingly insignifigant experiences in everyday life will ever add up to something? Sissi (Franka Potente) A nurse at a mental hospital Just seems to take life oneday at a time, not ever wondering if things could be differant somewhere else. But life has a way of waking us up sometimes and Sissi has no idea what is about to "hit" her. Bodo (Benno Furmann) a petty theif, belives that once one makes poor choices, one looses the possibility of redemption forever. In the seconds that it takes for an accident to occur, a life is saved, a souls redemption begins. Finally these complete strangers, one racked with indifferance, the other tortured by past deeds unchangeble, find themselves peering into a destiny that neither of them thought was possible. But the train wreck aint over yet. Bank robbers, Crazy psychiatric patients, and haunted pasts await these seeminly ordinary, everyday people you could run into on the street. Definately a 10! I am adding Tom Tykwer, director and writer of this film to my killer directors list. If you like this movie, you will love Run Lola Run, also starring Franka Potente and written a directed by Tom Tykwer as well. Franka Potente is also in another favorite of mine called Anatomy...these are all German Films with english subtitles. Who doesn't love a sweet Foriegn Flick eh...?

Land of the Dead

The only thing that could make a flesh eating, living-dead, maimed human being scarrier is a flesh eating, living-dead, maimed human being that knows you are its enemy. This is the fourth film in the legendary George A. Ramero's collection of cult classic zombie hits. Surounded by an electric barbed wire fence and two rivers, the last survivors of a disease that brings the dead back to life, hungry for the flesh of the living, scratches out a living. Some have found a way to the top of the society left and flaunt there prosperity by residing in a beautiful corprate building called fiddlers green. But how can anything stay beautiful in a world where greed is the only thing that seperates the survivors of a world now ruled by the stench of rotten flesh, and creatures, once human, now driven by one desire....to feed...This movie is a definitve 10. Watch it with everyone you know. If you like this, watch The originals of "Night of the Living Dead", "Dawn of the Dead", And "Day of the Dead". 1, 2 and 3 in Rameros Collection of zombie flix. Or "Shaun of the Dead"... a mock zombie flick.

Straight to Hell

After pulling a job for there mob boss, Four rowdy robbers (Dick Rude) Willy, (Sy Richardson) Norwood, (Courtney Love) Velma, and (Joe Strummer) Simms, decide they deserve all the money instead of just a cut, so the best thing to do is head straight out of town...to lay low till they've been forgotten about. Driving out into the middle of nowhere, they pick a spot to bury the money for a while and then end up stumbling into a town run by a gang called the Machon Clan, Crazy for coffee and killing, the Machon clan decided to let the unruly robbers stay only after a few poeple get shot
Everyone loves a good spegehtti western flick but only Alex Cox could come up with Protagonists who's main vice is there addiction to coffee...that and that they have no problem with killing every stranger that comes into there little cozy desert town (Town Makes Price, Ut look like heaven on earth) Combine that with four of the most nerve-racked, dim witted, tirgger happy bank robbers you've ever met, and you've got one western that you'll never see anything like again. I give this movie a 6 out of 10. Full of laughs, definately a good movie to watch at 2 or 3 in the morning
! If you enjoy this movie then definately check out Repo Man.

Three Businessmen

How far would you wander for a bite to eat with a complete stranger? Only Frank King (Alex Cox) and Bennie Reyes (Miguel Sandoval), Two complete strangers who find themselves wondering Liverpool, England to satisfy there appetites...or is it England? Two extremely boring protagonists with nothing more to talk about than theories about how to scare your computer into working harder for you or how great public transportation is. Is there a purpose to anything that happens in this Film? Watch very closely and maybe you'll catch what Bennie and Frank have been really missing all along. Alex Cox makes movies that Definately appeal to people who like Film noir I give this movie a 5 on a scale of 1-10. I need to feel a little indifferant to watch an Alex Cox film. Watch it once with commentary and see how much you picked up on...or missed for that matter. If you dig his style try Repo Man or Sid and Nancy!
